Since I began lurking (ahem, I think that’s the correct term?) in blogland a while back I’ve always been amazed at what those lucky people find in thrift stores and garage sales. In England, we have car boot sales and charity shops where you can find some great bargains. So far, garage sales in Montreal have been a disappointing event for me, I’m just not in the market for more plastic toys or 80s style furniture thank you. Maybe I’ve just been looking in the wrong places. Or maybe it was because I didn’t have a blog, because I happened upon not one but two fab sales this weekend – fancy that! Now I too, can rejoice in my wonderful bargains. If only I had more cash, I could have bought a beautiful oak canteen of silverware for $35. If only I hadn’t been already late for my first hair appointment in 9 months… anyway, this is some of what I did manage to buy:

The other thing that I have read with interest over the weekend is this meme. Reading others’ thoughts on blogging at the beginning of my journey has helped me to decide on some previously unanswered questions about the potential negative aspects; the issues of security and privacy (especially regarding our children) that were a concern to my husband when I mentioned what I wanted to do. Should I include photos of them? (yes, but not full on head shots) Should I use their real names? (yes, writing about them just doesn’t seem right to me otherwise). It has also reinforced the positive side of blogging, the inspiration, the shared interest, the community…all of which far outweigh the darker stuff. (I hope!)
Now I’m off to find out more about bloglines. I fear this may involve more precious time wasting ….
