Thank you for all the support and well wishes on the job front. Really. It made me feel much less nervous and my first day went pretty smoothly. Yay!
I kept myself busy sewing all weekend. Finishing off the cot quilt as it's being delivered to baby Ursula tomorrow. I'm pleased with how the sewing bit turned out but there are definitely lessons to be learned about colour and arrangement of the blocks. I found the process of quilting to be surprisingly forgiving and assumed that it would exaggerate every flaw (and there are many) but it didn't. I followed Amanda Jean's tutorial for basting, using safety pins and then I used my fabulous walking foot (oh yes Florence, I too am a convert!) to quilt a basic grid shape.
Finally, I used this excellent guide to help make neat mitred corners when binding.
The finished result.
I also did quite a bit of reading here in the past month - an excellent resource for quilting. I'd really like to tackle a quilt for our bed, but I'm just wondering how to deal with quilting something so large.
