As always, I'm still on the repurposing, recycling, upcyclying, call-it-what-you-will bandwagon and made some of these last night.
Baubles from last year's Christmas cards. I just need to find some festive ribbon or baker's twine for hanging.
Originally these were inspired by last year's UK Christmas issue of Country Living received in a swap, but there's also a tutorial here. My circles were made with a punch and after a whole hour of head scratching about how to accurately draw an equalateral triangle within a circle, I gave up and eyeballed it. Easy peasy - done in 15 minutes!
I remember doing those as a child! My girls would love them.
It's too late now, but I can tell you how to do the equilateral triangle thing. Did you ever use compasses to draw a hexagon in a circle at school? Set the compasses to the radius of the circle and put the point on the edge of the circle. Mark off the points were the pencil intersects the circumference of the circle. Move the point of the compass to one of these intersection points and mark off as before. Keep going round the circle - you'll end up with 6 evenly spaced points. Join three alternating points to get the triangle. You can do this with a ruler if you haven't got compasses (I just checked it)
I know, I even scare myself with geekiness sometimes.

How cute! Plus it would probably scare my husband if I actually did something with one of the old things that I don't throw out 'in case they will be useful one day'...
Maybe I can get the kids to make them for this year's decoration.

that's such a nice idea for christmas deccies - they turn out beautifully. I'm off to have a rummage in the cupboard under the stairs for old greetings cards!

I do that, decide to do something, battle through how to do and then find a tutorial that solved it quickly and easily and much better than mine!
