I finally plucked up the courage to knit a hat. A big milestone for me and now a previously unattainable, only ever dreamt of goal has been reached! Yay! And what's so satisfying about this project is that I did it on my own. Well almost. I had some help from a youtube tutorial explaining how to use dpns. Not sure about my bland colour choice but with an energetic and curious four year old in tow, browsing time in the wool shop was limited to a grand total of 90 seconds, so I decided to play it safe.
The pattern for this hat can be found here. Thank you to Elaine for the suggestion.
Next up: socks.
Of course.
Congratulations on your first hat!!! It looks great.

Well done with the hat it looks really good.
Thanks for your comments on my blog. I mentioned your comment about the burgers to my husband as I thought it was so funny the name you call the place and he admited that he had sinned and been there the other week for his lunch as he couldn't find anywhere else to eat!!. By the way I don't think you will loose your Mother of the year award - I'm sure the children won't think so and neither do I.

WOW...you are super cute with your hat! And I love the neutral colour that you took.
I looked at the instructions and I said: "no, don't get it, no" :(
Oh maybe one day!

It looks great. I like the colour, but I'm not reknown for bright colour choices (wearing blue and, um, blue today...). My first knitting project was a hat (with ears) that came in a pack designed to teach teens to knit. Luckily dpns weren't involved, or that would have probably been the end of my knitting career...

Your hat looks lovely! I have now made two from that pattern -- I love it! The first one was a bit of a mishap since I thought the pattern called for five ADDITIONAL inches of knitting after the seed stitch "band." Cutest toque ever!
