Seriously. Where is the time going? I'm soaking up my little family right now and all things crafty are on the backburner for the moment. We've suddenly hit a big period of growth, exactly the same time as last year, where I feel I need to stay focused on what's really important.
Parenthood is full of suprises isn't it? Today, my up-until-very-recently-terrified-of-water son (yes, the one who cried his way through the last two courses of swimming lessons) swam.
Let go of the teacher and swam.
I couldn't believe it. He was so proud of himself. I cried.
Later on this evening, I found the two of them snuggled up in bed with Ruby reading a story to Tommy. A chapter book that I thought was way beyond her reading ability. She was so excited "I can read it Mummy!".
Amazing how things suddenly click into place.
How can they be growing up so fast?
PS In case you're wondering, the picture is part of a human alphabet project we're working on - inspired by this and this.
The thrill of finding my big girl reasing stories to her little sister - indescribable. They surprise me every day. Thanks for the reminder to make the most of it! Come September both of mine will be in school - I have very mixed feelings about that.

full of surprises.. yes... and fantastic too. i think kids find their way in their own time and then how proud are they of themselves... lovely ...oh and i would have cried too!
we are on a rollercoaster with parenting arn't we? ... but a wonderful one!
happy day to you and your letter making small people.

Absolutely Ginny - I'm all too aware that it's all to easy to "rush" our children to the next milestone (especially in my neighbourhood!) but its so much more rewarding when they do it all by themselves!

Mine will both be at school too in September (they're only a year apart in school years), so have mixed feelings too.

You've given me hope. I have plans to visit my mother-in-law this summer and make use of the pool in her block to see if we can get my son finally used to the water. He's had a few short courses of swimming lessons, but none of the kids(!) teaching him seem to want to help him get past the fear of his face going in the water.

The human alphabet is fab!
I'm quite sad at the moment at how much my three are growing up. I can't believe that Fred will be moving to the Junior School in September - surely he's still my baby? Ok, so he's going to be 7 next month but that's still toddler age isn't it? I keep dreaming about being pregnant or having a baby (which isn't going to happen again!) or that Fred has wandered off somewhere or walked home from school on his own without waiting for me - which I'm sure is all to do with me trying to cope with him growing up. I wish it was possible to just bottle them at squidgy stage!

It goes so, so fast. Capture that alphabet quick, while they still want to play with you!

it is quite amazing, isn't it. I remember Delaney looking at a high object she wanted and then at a chair. I could see the lightbulb ignite - There isn't a day that goes by that my daughter's don't amaze me - no matter how crazy life gets (or I get), I fall in love with them all over

I think it is truly amazing that kids will refuse to do things until they are ready themselves and then they just fly with it. I learnt with the first the hard way and have learnt to sit back a bit more with both of them now rather than listen to where other kids the same stage are at. They do grow so fast. Have a great weekend

They surprise us with this growing up stuff. Just take a step back and soak it in.
