Yesterday's advent treat was a most likely once in a lifetime event. The olympic torch has been making it's way through Montreal this week in preparation for the winter games in Vancouver next year, finally reaching our neck of the woods last night. What a thrill to see it. The children were very excited and proud to know that the torch bearer was someone who they had a connection to (the son of someone in our community).
Tommy, holding his own olympic torch:
The children cracked open their money banks to buy some special red mittens to support the Canadian athletes. Good job too. There's a snowstorm outside today.
how cool, it comes to our little northern BC community in January!

I can remember seeing the Olympic torch go past our house in Baie d'Urfe when it was the 1988 Calgary Olympics...it is something you never forget!

In early 2000 we stood along the street and watched the Olympic torch being carried on its way to the Sydney Olympics. It is an exciting event and a memory-maker.

In 2002 the Olympic Torch went through my town, less than a mile from my house, on its way to Salt Lake City. It was in January and freezing outside, but I bundled up my children (then 4 and 2) and took them to watch.
Those mittens are awesome. Such a lovely shade of red!

What a special thing for your children. Those are the types of memories that they will love to share with their own children. I love that they used their piggy bank money for those mittens. What a great combination of a souvenir and something purposeful. We just got a bit more snow here too...

That is truly something to remember. I love the mittens and the fact that they used their money to buy them. It will make them even more special.
