Someone got it in their head a while ago that he wanted to make his own fizzy bath bombs after having had a first hand demonstration at our local Lush. I'm guessing it's not the draw of soft skin that appealed to him as much as the thought of mixing up a bubbly potion.
Spring break this week provided us with the perfect opportunity so I gathered the necessary ingredients so we could try it out. Powdered citric acid was the trickiest item to locate but I eventually found it at the smallest pharmacy in our area. We used this tutorial as our guide, as well as a trusty sillicone muffin tray and some dried lavender bought at a local market at the end of the summer. They turned out great, a little on the greasy side (I'd cut back a little on the oil next time) and they'd certainly make great gifts...
These look great - it's a pity your blog readers can't get smelly-vision.

They look gorgeous, well done! I had real trouble finding citric acid too, but eventually found it in my local Asian supermarket, maybe try there for larger quantities? Xx

We love making these - it usually keeps the kids quiet fior a blissful half hour or so. Then they throw them all into the bath at once!

My bl**%@ husband threw out my silicone muffin pan. Crayons hearts were cancelled. No chance of bath bombs...

how funny! my daughter was inspired to make fizzy bath bombs and we made them last week. must be something in the air! i like the idea of adding lavender. we scented ours with coconut essential oil. they smell really good, but look like marshmallows, which has my son begging for marshmallows. my daughter really wants to make the bath bombs that look like cupcakes, so we're going to have to track down some meringue powder to make some frosting.

I was just needing a visit to Lush but now you have me thinking I can do this at home. Yay! I'm curious, what kind of oil did you use and how much do you think you would decrease it by?

I used canola and I would say two thirds of a cup probably would have done it. You could start with less and add more slowly...

That sounds like a fun project! I'm sure my two would have endless fun with this, and nice gifts to share afterwards too!
