I've lost track of how many pictures I have of this boy in the water this year.
We've had a heat wave here this past few days. The children went back to school with temperatures in the mid thirties and our much loved pool has been kept open a few extra days. Usually at the beginning of September, I'm looking forward to the change of season, picking apples, making soup and enjoying the crisp morning air on the walk to school. Instead we've been eating salad, using the barbecue and turning on the air con in the house.
Regardless of the weather, thoughts of food this time of year are rarely out of mind.
I'm hoping that I'll spend the day canning tomatoes again soon (we only just ran out of last year's supply).
I really want to make this soup. To see if I can't persuade my children that fresh is better than tinned.
Corn is abundance at our local market. $1.99 for 10. There's nothing quite like the really fresh stuff. We're big corn eaters here and I'm always looking for new recipes. Last night we ate Menonite Corn Salad with quinoa rather than barley. Yum.
Since coming back from the UK where my mum made lovely homemade bread, I've dug out my breadmaker from the basement and started making a loaf every other day. So tasty.
Oh and there's always the return of the dreaded school lunch box...I find packing something interesting and nutritious every day such a chore. Thinking of buying these for the children to ease the burden on my exploding tupperware cupboard...
I love that photo! Kids have so much fun in the water don't they?

What a photo!
I had the first of the lunchboxes today. My elder daughter informed me that from now on she will only eat jam or ham sandwiches. Argh!

I ended up making a batch of flap jacks yesterday for lunch boxes - such a good old trusty faithfull.
The weather is the opposite in the UK - Autumn feels like it has been here since the start of August (and Summer holidays!!)but at least it has stopped raining.
Enjoy your heat wave,
Nina xxx

That photo is pure joy - no wonder he has enjoyed the pool so much!

Fall was in Montreal...it was there the last week we were there! LOL
But I have been watching the weather and I can see it is hot hot hot again...so not fair on the kids when they are back at school!
We were lucky enough to sample the local corn and it was delicious..so sweet and tender. We bought some in the UK when we returned and there is no comparison...the UK corn was tough!
I'm with you on the whole "what-to-make-for-school-lunches" I find it hard to keep it interesting. I find changing the variety of bread helps..like using tortilla wraps or seeded buns.
Thanks for the comment on my blog...yes, we were staying in Baie d'Urfe. My family home is there so I know the area very well. :o)

Still hot today, but it's about to break I think! You're so right about the corn, there is no comparison!

Thanks Kirsten...lots of great ideas!

Arrggh. I do jam and cream cheese "rollups" using tortillas sometimes for my son. My biggest bugbear is that neither of them like the same fillings for sandwiches. I try not to cater to their every whim at meal times in the evenings,(they have to pick out/leave what they don't like)but for lunches I try to be kinder!

Ah yes, we experienced that autumnal weather when we were there...we were freezing!!

Finally, we had a few years of him being terrified...it's hard to imagine now!

The best thing about my boys changing school was bidding farewell to the tyrrany of the lunchbox - school dinners all the way, baby!

Lucky you! Unfortunately its not an option at our school although they do have pizza day every other Friday which provides a miniscule bit of relief ;)

I love homemade bread and use my bread machine a lot, only problem is that is so tasty it gets eaten very quickly!
The sun came out last week as the children went back to school, a bit of an indian summer to make up for such a grotty August.

Golly! I wish we could get corn that cheaply! It's about £1.99 for two here! Lucy x

I want to make that tomato soup, too!
Enjoy your last summery days! It is quite fallish here in MN already.

Hi Lina...Just replying to your comment on my blog...about the quilt shops on the West Island. I was told that Maison de Calico closed their doors earlier this summer :o( I was shocked to find that out as she'd been trading in the village for 34 years! But apparently she sold the property and all...I was hoping to stop in as that is where I bought some of my first cotton fabric...but it wasn't to be...

I have to say, going into my 4th week of packing school lunches, that the Planet Boxes have actually eased my burden of packing lunches. Usually I hate it, but in all honesty, not having to hunt around for a million containers and lids is wonderful! They are heavy, though . . .

We've been having a very warm weather also but no more pool for us ;o)
I can't wait for the soup making and bread eating of fall too!
