There is a random rule in our house which means not putting up the Christmas tree or any other decorations for that matter until 2 weeks before the big day. I'm not sure where it came from but the tree will be bought and decorated this weekend. In anticipation, the children wanted to add to the already very eclectic mash up of decorations with some homemade ones. We opted for cinnamon apple dough (not edible, its made with glue) which smells awesome and looks just like gingerbread dough. They were made with cookie cutters and stamps, baked for a few hours at 200F and decorated with a white sharpie and some red ribbon.
Recipe for the dough is here. Yep, that would be Martha again.
We have the same decorations rule, so we'll be joining the world and his wife trying to buy a tree this weekend too. And I have No Idea where we're going to fit it in.

What great decorations!
Growing up we always put the tree up at the last minute. There's no cold weather and downtown filled with lights here, though, so I like to stick the tree up early, as otherwise it just doesn't feel Christmas-y. My Scrooge objected to my singing carols in November, though. Actually, he pretty much always objects to my singing, whenever I do it...

Very clever.

Those are so sweet!! Very pretty, although I wouldn't trust myself around something that smells so nice, I would definitely be tempted to give it a little nibble just to check it can't be eaten!!

We are hoping to put up our tree this weekend too...the children are desperate to get into the Christmas spirit!

He he. My children couldn't resist the dough and had a quick taste. By the look on their faces it wasn't very appetizing...

We'll have to drag ours through a foot of snow too just to add to the chaos...

They look wonderful! I have bought the tree, but have not yet brought it indoors.

They're perfect - so lovely and christmassy and the red ribbon is the perfect finishing touch!

Loving your decorations! I might try these next year. Ingenious tip to use a sharpie! I wish there was a cake decorating equivalent as I'm hopeless at icing anything. X

We bought ours this afternoon, it smells wonderful and we'll decorate it tomorrow. I'd never have thought of using marker pen, great idea!
My epsom salted doilies are drying in the kitchen, Christmas is coming!

Thanks for commenting on my blog - we have decked the halls this weekend too and though I say it myself, it does look good - have used my own 'homemade decorations'.
