This year, I'm opting for a simple Christmas in my home. That doesn't mean I don't want to put up decorations for the house, buy gifts or make the season any less special for my family, but I just really want to focus on simple this year.
As I get older (and although you wouldn't necessarily realize it looking at the state of my house) clutter and too much "stuff" bothers me more and more. And although I am certainly not a minimalist by any stretch, this time of year the thought of Christmas decorations everywhere makes me feel slightly overwhelmed instead of joyful. I recently came to the realization that although we have amassed quite a few Christmas decorations over the years, many of them highly sentimental, I don't have to use all of them, every year.
A revelation I tell you. Why did it take me so long to work that out?!!
I totally agree with you !!!

I know. I figured that out with the tree ornaments a couple of years ago. Much simpler.

You know me...I love simplicity! Let me know how your simple Christmas went in a few weeks :)

I could have written exactly the same thing (well if my English was better !). I'm not completely minimalist, I like some warmth &some home-y feelings too much, but yes you said it no need to go head over heels. i decorate just the way & how much I feel comfortable with.
Didyou make that reindeer ? it is stunning !!

Hmmmm, you'd hate my decorating style ;-) I find that tinsel covers up the clutter and dust - at least till January 6th when I am filled with the horror of what I didn't sort out in December ...

Thank you! Isn't he cute? I didn't make him - I bought him from a fair trade store, made in Kenya I think.

That sounds like a brilliant plan! I'm still at the stage of trying to tidy and declutter each room before I decide what decorations go up.

Yes, oh yes. Though my self restraint often goes out the window when the boxes come down from the loft!

I think I may be travelling along the same lines as you. I am fed up of stuff being everywhere! I have been moving stuff on for months but there is still too much around. I purged decorations last year and when I got them out this year I had a bit of a wobble that I would not have enough. Stupid thought. By not having them everywhere gives my kuds and I cache to make some and gather greenery to fill the house. Nice to know I am not the only one

This year I finally realized that with the ornaments, too! They did not all go out, and it was a lot simpler. :)
